Inside the lives of five NHL prospects who fled North America for Europe

Every year, many of Europe’s best young hockey players leave home as teenagers to move to North America in pursuit of their NHL dreams. “It’s been interesting because when I was in America they had the protests and then when I came to Belarus they had their protests too,” Lodnia said. “I don’t want to speak for other prospects but the main reason why we’re all doing this is to make the NHL,” Lodnia said. “There’s no point in going over and it’s a subpar league and the player’s developing bad habits,” Resnick said. “I was really lucky to land with a really good team in a league that’s up and running, in a really good city, with a first-class organization,” Veleno said.
