A look back at Cyclone Alfred's aftermath in south-east Queensland and northern NSW

Cyclone Alfred was downgraded to an ex-cyclone last Saturday, meaning many residents of south-east Queensland and northern NSW went to bed that evening believing it had all been much ado about nothing. Tuesday, March 11 Tuesday morning brought the welcome news that there had been comparatively little rainfall across south-east Queensland and northern NSW overnight, and many of the most dangerous rivers and creeks were now falling. However, more than 120,000 homes across Queensland and northern NSW remained without power, and many still had no phone service. Tens of thousands of people were still without power including many businesses, making it difficult or impossible to operate and exacerbating losses already incurred by the need to close as the system approached.
