Man arrested for duping people by posing as godman in Nuzvid

The Eluru district police arrested a man on charges of duping several families by masquerading as a godman, in Nuzvid. The accused, identified as T. Balaiah, allegedly approached several families and warned them that tough times would befall them unless they performed several ‘pujas’. Based on complaints lodged by some of the victims, Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore formed special teams headed by Nuzvid Deputy Superintendent of Police K.V.V.N.V. He said the ‘horoscope’ of one of the family members was bad, and offered to fix it by performing ‘Shanti Pujas’ at Sammakka Saralamma temple and allegedly took ₹26,400 from them before disappearing.
