The committee, which was tasked with reviewing the metro's fare structure, consisted of Justice R Tharani, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Additional Secretary Satinder Pal Singh, and retired Karnataka IAS officer EV Ramana Reddy. “If the fare hike is implemented, it will discourage many daily commuters who rely on the metro for convenience and affordability. The fare hike proposal comes days after the Karnataka government announced a 15 per cent hike in bus fares across all four state-run transport corporations: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, effective January 5.
