UK Athletics launches independent review into Alberto Salazar

Daily Mail

Crisis-hit UK Athletics have launched a major review into their decision to allow Sir Mo Farah to continue training under Alberto Salazar in 2015. A UKA performance oversight committee said four years ago that they saw no reason to cut ties with the now-disbanded Nike Oregon Project, despite astonishing allegations against Salazar on the BBC's Panorama. Alberto Salazar was banned for four years by the US Anti-Doping Agency in October Eyebrows were also raised about why such an inquiry was led by former athletes Jason Gardener, Dr Sarah Rowell and Anne Wafula Strike rather than seasoned investigators. The review will also assess whether UKA reacted correctly to a leaked interim US Anti-Doping report in 2017 that said Salazar 'almost certainly' broke the rules. The 61-year-old American coach worked with Mo Farah between the years of 2011 to 2017 UKA chairman Chris Clark said: 'The UKA board recognises the seriousness of the United States Anti-Doping Agency decision released at the start of October.
