Cyclone Gulab to make landfall on Sunday, 7 Odisha districts on alert
India TodayThe India Meteorological Department informed on Saturday that a cyclonic storm, named Gulab, is likely to make landfall on Sunday evening in the coastal regions of southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. Talking to India Today, Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena said, "We have put collectors of seven districts — Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal and Malkangiri — on high alert, in view of the possible cyclone, as these districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall activities." PK Jena informed that 15 ODRAF and six NDRF teams will be deployed in Ganjam district, while six ODRAF and four NDRF teams will be there in Gajapati. "Apart from the possible seven districts, which are expected to bear the brunt of the cyclonic storm, we have decided to keep 4 NDRF teams in Nayagarh as a precautionary measure apart from other reserve teams in case of heavy rainfall in coastal districts of the state,” said SRC PK Jena.
