WHO's coronavirus sleuths are heading to China but it may be too late to solve the pandemic's mysteries
ABCThis week the World Health Organization is sending in a team to China to investigate the origins of coronavirus, posing an unusual challenge to Beijing's efforts to suggest COVID-19 came from abroad. "Chinese experts believe the team should hold discussions with the Chinese side on how to conduct the work globally and fairly, noting that the visit does not mean the virus originated in China," the state-owned Global Times reported when the WHO mission was first announced. And state media is quick to publicise any findings or theories that suggest the existence of cases prior to Wuhan's outbreak in December last year, including a recent study from Spain.
