Supreme Court to hear plea seeking inauguration of new Parliament building by President

India Today

Hours after a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the government to inaugurate the new Parliament building by President Droupadi Murmu, the court decided to hear the PIL on Friday. The petition, filed by Supreme Court lawyer CR Jaya Sukin, stated that by not including the President in the inauguration, the Central government "violated the Constitution of India". This development came after 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, TMC, AAP, AIMIM and JD, said they would boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28. PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on May 28 following an invitation by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
