Giants spring preview: San Francisco appears to have solid floor but questions abound

New York Times

Giants president Farhan Zaidi made a plea during a teleconference call with reporters in mid-January. And if you compare that team’s spring training roster to the one that will report to Scottsdale Stadium this week, you could argue the Giants are better now than they were then. Webb backed out of playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic because he understands how important he is to the Giants’ fortunes this season. If the Giants had a rotation of Rodóns last season, perhaps their defensive liabilities wouldn’t have been so starkly exposed. Former two-time Gold Glover Roberto Pérez is likely to make the team, but there’s a reason the Giants were able to add him as a non-roster invitee.
