Oleksandra, 34, was a graphic artist before she became a drone pilot in Ukraine's armed forces. "The worst thing is when everyone leaves the zero point and you see that not everyone comes back," says Oleksandra, who calls her father each day to make sure he's one of the lucky ones who returns. "It's very difficult because you're worried about her, that she's safe, and that's impossible in the war," he says. The 117th Mechanized Brigade formed out of the 15th Rifle Battalion that defended the family's home city of Sumy following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. "We will definitely get to Tokmak and Melitopol," says Yevhen, fire burning in his eyes.
