India TodayIn a scathing indictment of the judiciary, the Madras High Court has revealed “a shocking attempt to manipulate the criminal justice system” by judges in the disproportionate assets case of Higher Education Minister and senior DMK leader K Ponmudy in Tamil Nadu. READ | Madras High Court upholds probe agency’s right to arrest DMK minister In its revision order, the court reveals that the High Court on the administrative side transferred the case from Viluppuram to Vellore through a “note” and the Vellore judge heard and decided the case within 4 days, acquitting the minister and his wife. “Within 4 days, the Principal District Judge, Vellore, marshalled the evidence of 172 prosecution witnesses and 381 documents and managed to deliver a 226-page judgment acquitting all the accused,” says the order. Two days later, the Vellore judge retired and “rode off into the sunset”, notes the High Court single-judge bench of Justice N Anand Venkatesh.
