Strawberry supermoon rises tonight: The what, when, and where of this celestial event

After a total lunar eclipse, the Moon is set for another celestial event as the supermoon takes to the skies across the world on Tuesday. The full moon is known by different names across the world, including the Strawberry Supermoon, the Mead, Honey, or Rose Moon. The term supermoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth. When a full moon appears at perigee it is slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon and that's where we get a "supermoon." The moon will reach its full stage on Tuesday, during a phenomenon known as a supermoon because its proximity to Earth, and it is also labeled as the "Strawberry Moon".
