Barabanki mosque demolished: Police book 8 Sunni waqf board members for fraud, cheating
India TodayDays after a controversy broke out over the demolition of a mosque in Barabanki, the police lodged a case against eight members of a committee for allegedly using fraudulent means to get the site registered with the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board. Acting on a complaint by the district minority welfare officer, an FIR was filed against eight people, including the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board inspector. The All-India Muslim Law Board and the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board alleged that the administration in Barabanki pulled down a mosque and demanded a judicial probe into it. "The century-old Garib Nawaz mosque in Ram Sanehi Ghat tehsil was demolished by the administration without any legal justification on Monday night in the presence of police," All-India Muslim Law Board working general secretary Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani said in a statement.
