'Selfish' drivers and risk-taking behaviours fuelling road deaths, ARSF chair says

The head of the Australian Road Safety Foundation says its latest research suggests New South Wales drivers are deliberately engaging in unsafe behaviour behind the wheel. Human cost of unsafe driving The findings were released to coincide with the foundation's launch of Rural Road Safety Month in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday. Independent monitoring of the national road toll finds deaths on Australia's roads have risen in almost every state and territory, prompting concerns the National Road Safety Strategy is failing. While the findings were confronting, Mr White from the ARSF said he was encouraged by the fact that nine out of 10 people surveyed said that road safety campaigns helped to change their behaviour.
