Seahawks camp notes: Pads pop, youngsters shine on Day 3
New York TimesRENTON, Wash. – In my preview of Seahawks training camp, I noted some of the popular platitudes players and coaches spout this time of year. Still, Sunday had a different vibe than the first two days of camp, so let’s get to some notes and observations from Day 3: — Of course, the most significant news of the weekend was Seattle agreeing to terms with left tackle Duane Brown on a three-year extension worth a reported $36.5 million. — Carroll made it clear after Day 1 that pass-protection will be crucial for his young running backs, saying, “It’ll keep a guy off the field if he can’t do it.” I watched a portion of the group’s pass-protection drill Sunday. But then again, now we’re getting into pads where you’ve got to show the ability to get into position, find your guy, strike and keep him away from the quarterback – and it’s early.” — Receiver Doug Baldwin sat out Sunday for what may simply be veteran’s rest day, which happened during minicamp. I haven’t been intently watching Lockett during training camp because of the uncertainty surrounding the rest of that position group, but after it seemed like Wilson’s pass from 10-15 yards out wouldn’t leave him enough room to come down with both feet in bounds, Lockett made it happen in the back of the end zone.
