Amsterdam bans city workers from using Generative AI over propaganda, hate speech fears
The municipality of Amsterdam has banned civil servants from using generative AI like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Gemini, and Midjourney for their work. The municipality worries about these artificial intelligence technologies providing incorrect information, facilitating data leaks, promoting hate speech, and spreading propaganda, AT5 reports from an internal message sent to city workers this week. “As an employee, you may only use AI tools that have been determined to comply with laws and regulations and Amsterdam policy,” the municipality said in the message, according to the city broadcaster. “We continue to monitor developments and regularly assess whether AI tools comply with the rules.” The city is working on an experiment with “Chat Amsterdam” to see if AI can be used “in a safe and responsible manner within the municipality.” This is not the first time Amsterdam has banned its officials from using certain apps.
