Maha Kumbh 2025: Boat Fares Soar by 50%, devotees brace for costlier rides

India Today

In preparation for the upcoming Maha Kumbh in January, the Kumbh Mela Administration has approved a 50% increase in boat fares. The move was finalised after constructive discussions between the Prayagraj District Boatmen Association and the Mela administration. Pappu Lal Nishad, President of the Prayagraj District Boatmen Association, welcomed the hike, noting that fares had remained stagnant for years despite rising inflation. The number of operational boats at Sangam, currently 1,455, is expected to exceed 4,000 during the Maha Kumbh as additional boats arrive from neighbouring districts.
