Takata airbags: Toyota, Honda and Mazda facing class action

ABC

A Sydney lawyer has announced a class action lawsuit against Toyota, Honda and Mazda, seeking refunds for cars fitted with faulty airbags from Takata linked to 18 deaths around the world. In February the Japanese company, Takata Corporation, pleaded guilty to fraud and agreed to pay a $US1 billion penalty for concealing evidence that its airbag inflators could explode with too much force. Earlier this month, an unidentified 58-year-old Australian man likely became the 18th death worldwide due to exploding Takata airbag inflators. In Australia 2.1 million vehicles have been recalled, but an investigation by consumer group Choice found more than two-thirds of those have not yet had their faulty airbags replaced.
