"From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction — you must stay at home," Mr Johnson said, speaking to the UK in a pre-recorded statement. Mr Johnson said libraries, gyms, places of worship, playgrounds and "all shops selling non-essential goods including clothing and electronics stores" would be closed immediately to "ensure compliance" with the new directives.
