Daily Mail

It is five years since that glorious moment when I stood in the pillared room in Downing Street as a cheering crowd counted down the seconds to midnight – and BONG! They held up two fingers to all those who told them Britain was too feeble to leave the EU, and five years ago – obedient to their mandate – we scrupulously took back control. By delivering a full and proper Brexit, we came out of both the customs union and single market – and ceased to be bound by the decisions of EU institutions such as the European Medicines Agency. Boris Johnson gives a thumbs up after signing the Brexit trade deal at No10 on December 30, 2020 If we had stayed in the EU, we would have stayed instinctively with the European Medicines Agency timetable, we would have stayed in the European vaccines procurement programme – and our vaccine roll-out would have been appreciably slower, at a life-and-death moment for the British people. Brexit means nothing unless you have a government that truly believes in Brexit, and Britain will never truly succeed until the British ruling classes finally share the pride and self-confidence of the people themselves.
