Meeting looks at music's global context

The third international conference on contemporary studies of Chinese music in a global perspective, Contrast and Convergence in Chinese Music, took place at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing from Oct 20 to 23. Issues, such as "music research under global cultural flows", "research on the contemporary value of Chinese traditional music" and "current and future research on professional music composition in China", have been discussed. The discussions cover the composer's music research from the view of cross-cultural study, his sound expression combined with classical Chinese poetry and his music language based on ancient Chinese music and adapted with modern music. Concerts were also staged, featuring Chinese chamber music ensembles, such as Amber Quartet, Shanxi Gong Family wind and percussion musicians, and the Chinese chamber orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music.
