DDA defers temple demolition in Mayur Vihar after protest by MLA
A Delhi Development Authority drive to demolish three temples in Mayur Vihar, situated in the city’s green zones, was postponed after Patparganj MLA Ravinder Singh Negi staged a protest on the site. On Thursday, a team of DDA officials, accompanied by the police had reached the east Delhi locality around 4 a.m. to raze Kali Mandir, Amarnath Mandir, and Badrinath Mandir. Confirming that the drive was postponed, a DDA spokesperson said, “Our legal team is reviewing the matter.” Mr. Negi added that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor V.K. Meanwhile, AAP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, claimed that the BJP’s “double-engine government” first ordered the demolitions, deployed bulldozers and police, and then pretended to be unaware when a public outrage erupted.
