External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday spoke with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif amid spiraling United States-Iran tensions over the killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani and noted that the developments have taken a serious turn. S Jaishankar said India remained deeply concerned about the levels of tension in the region and that the country will remain in touch with Iran. Dr. S. Jaishankar January 5, 2020 The conversation between the two leaders comes days after Iran's top military commander Qassem Soleimani was killed in a United States airstrike on Friday. Maj Gen Soleimani, 62, the head of Iran's elite al-Quds force and architect of its regional security apparatus, was killed when a US drone fired missiles into a convoy that was leaving the Baghdad International Airport early on Friday.
