Ben Chilwell expected to stay at Chelsea as £50m left back faces the prospect of a full season without meaningful first-team football

Ben Chilwell is set to stay at Chelsea unless a new club arrives with a late January window swoop that can revive the England left back's career. Sources say Chilwell is not close to leaving the Blues, for whom he has appeared only once this season – as a substitute in the Carabao Cup win over League Two Barrow in September. The 28-year-old Englishman has continued to train at Cobham to maintain fitness but with nothing currently lined up, he is now facing a full season without meaningful first-team football. Ben Chilwell looks set to stay at Chelsea despite the club's efforts to move him on in January Chilwell's only appearance in all competitions this season came in the EFL Cup in September Chilwell, pictured in training, cost Chelsea £50m in 2020 and he is under contract until 2027 Manager Enzo Maresca has decided that Chilwell is not his type of full back and is unlikely to change that stance if he stays.
