Why China supports Trump's decision to cut VOA funding
India TodayChina's state-controlled media has hailed US President Donald Trump's decision to cut funding for Voice of America and other US government-funded news outlets. “But as for the media you mentioned, their bad records in reporting on China are not a secret.” Last week, Trump’s administration put almost the entire staff of VOA on leave and ended grants to Radio Free Asia and other media with similar news programming. VOA plays a significant role in providing independent news coverage, with its Chinese-language website often addressing stories ignored by China's state-controlled media. Clayton Weimers, USA executive director of the press advocacy group Reporters Without Borders, said that authoritarian regimes are “the biggest winners” from Trump's gutting of the US Agency for Global Media.
