Budget session 2025: PM Narendra Modi reply to motion thanks debate to President Droupadi Murmu in Lok Saba

Launching a scathing attack on the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a day before polling in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that unlike others, his government “lived the spirit of the Constitution”, saving public funds for development, rather than building a “sheeshmahal”, a dig at former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal. Responding to the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President’s Address to both Houses of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister enumerated his government’s record or development, stating that “it is only our third term”, exuding confidence in his political authority. Without naming names, he took a swipe at Mr Kejriwal and AAP a day before the Delhi Assembly polls, saying “some parties are like ‘AAP-da’ for the future of the youth” adding that while his government’s schemes saved lot of money, it was not used to build ‘Sheesh Mahal’ a referrence to Mr Kejriwal’s palatial residence as chief minister. In a sharp attack on the Gandhi family, Mr Modi said that talking about caste had become a fashion in some quarters, except that “have you seen any Scheduled Caste family that has sent three MPs to Parliament at the same time or even a Scheduled Tribe family”, pointing out without mentioning names that three members of the Gandhi family – former party president Sonia Gandhi as Rajya Sabha MP and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Lok Sabha were currently MPs.
