Centre withholds release of funds for JNNURM works
The HinduNot fulfilling the mandatory reforms as laid down for funding under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission has led to stalling of release of funds from the Union Government to GVMC. The Centre withholds 10 per cent of the funds for work completed as long as the urban local body does not fulfil them. For the seven projects that GVMC wants to complete by March alone, the funds withheld by the Centre towards 10 per cent are a whopping Rs.57.17 crore. User charges Two major areas where the GVMC’s has not been able to make headway are collection of user charges for sewerage and total solid waste management. The GVMC has also approved a resolution handing over total solid waste management to Ramky Enviro Engineers but it awaits government approval and faces a stiff resistance from workers.
