That's hello in Ngunnuwal, the language of Canberra's custodians. That's why I was so pleased the ABC worked with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies and the United Ngunnawal Elders Council to have listeners welcomed to ABC Radio Canberra in the Ngunnawal language. Aunty Caroline Hughes, who voiced her language on the radio, said, to her, it was a sign of "coming full circle". Some Ngunnawal words you'll hear on ABC Radio Canberra: Yuumma = hello Wannggirali = listen Ma dji nhu = you Wuradji = from Yerrabi = let's go/goodbye "I've had so many non-Indigenous people coming up to me, recognising my voice, and wanting to have a conversation about the language, and about my people," she said. "It's part of reviving our language and saving it," Aunty Caroline said.
