According to The Soil Association organic cotton emits up to 46 per cent less greenhouse gas than non-organic. It’s better for water than conventionally produced cotton too, organic farming allows for healthy soil to become like a sponge, soaking up water during floods and holding it for longer in times of drought. Organic fibres are grown without nasty chemicals, and organic cotton farmers get a much better price for their crop, so everyone is a winner. In the UK, there are two independent organic certifications: The Soil Association Certification and the Global Organic Textile Standard so when making your next babygrow purchase look out for these.
