With its picturesque winding streets, whitewashed stone cottages and relaxed atmosphere, the Cornish seaside town of Looe was an easy choice for producers looking for a base for BBC series Beyond Paradise Looe resident Dawn Spry works at the Guildhall Market, which doubles as Shipton Abbott police station in the show Looe resident Dawn Spry who works at the Guildhall Market said: 'We get a lot of people coming in and asking us is this where it was all filmed. Dawn said: 'We do get a lot of fans wanting a plaque outside and asking where to stand to get the best picture' The police station which is really the Guildhall Market, is a popular tourist spot for fans The town provides the backdrop for Shipton Abbott - the fictional home of DI Humphrey Goodman after he quit the Caribbean to work in a sleepy West Country town with his wife Martha Pictured: DS Esther Williams played by Zahra Ahmadi, and Humphrey Goodman played by Kris Marshall, filming the show in Looe Now in its second series, locals say the show's popularity - with 8.7 million viewers tuning in - has led to Looe's streets being clogged with fans in search of selfies Sidy by side: The cast taking promotional photos in the middle of the town of Looe where fans have been flocking Elsewhere in the town, locals remarked how many people loved watching the show being filmed Juliet Doolan who runs Quirky, a ladies fashion boutique which has featured in numerous background shots, says she sees endless fans of the show taking selfies outside 'The cast and crew have all been friendly but when they are doing their thing we are not really in their minds, they are in their own bubble.' They could go with the flow a little bit more and be a little bit more considerate of what we're trying to do' Producer Tim Key explained: 'When we went to Looe, which is actually in Cornwall, it was a beautiful tourist town, but also a thriving community with fishing businesses, so we felt we had found our home' Further along the marina - which often provides the background for the show - traders say they are often asked about the show but filming schedules can sometimes clash with the busy seaside town's day-to-day operations One resident said: 'We get plenty of positive publicity for it and it probably does bring some money into the town' The show is filmed in numerous locations in Devon and Cornwall but Looe - a bustling fishing port with a thriving tourism industry and many independent businesses - was chosen as the home for the show because it felt like an authentic town 'I think when they are filming it causes some disruption. Pictured left is a shot of the town from the first season Producer Tim Key said: 'The fictional town is set slightly back from the coast, so we have all sorts of story worlds to dive into' Ahead of the second series of Beyond Paradise airing on BBC One earlier this month, the location debate continued on X There is one key location that is not open to the public is DI Goodman's houseboat, during filming the boat is moored on the banks of the Tamar River at Pentillie Castle.
