L-G approves graft probe against Satyendar Jain in CCTV graft case
New Indian ExpressNEW DELHI: L-G VK Saxena has approved an investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act against incarcerated AAP leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 7 crore for waiving a penalty imposed on Bharat Electronics Limited, in connection with a project for installation of CCTV cameras in the 70 assembly constituencies in the city. The case involves waiving off penalties worth Rs 16 crore imposed on the BEL for the delay in the installation of CCTV cameras. “Jain, who was the PWD minister, GNCTD and nodal authority of the project, is accused of receiving a bribe of Rs 7 crore for waiving off the penalty of Rs 16 crore imposed on BEL for delay in installing 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi at the cost of Rs 571 crores,” a Raj Niwas statement said. “Further, the fact that repeat orders were placed to the vendors to enhance value to arrange the bribe amount for the minister indicates commission of offence under PoC Act.there were sufficient grounds to grant permission under Section 17 A of the PoC Act to allow ACB to conduct investigation,” the Raj Niwas stated.
