Covid-19: Pune asks Mumbai for 20,000 vials of Remdesivir amid vaccine shortage
India TodayPune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao on Thursday requested the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to spare 20,000 vials of Remdesivir from its stock of two lakh vials that it had procured recently. Rao wrote a letter to Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal stating that there was an increasing demand for Remdesivir due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in Pune district. I am writing to request you with high hopes that the BMC may supply us with 20,000 vials at the BMC’s purchase price of Rs 1568 to help patients in our hospitals.” WATCH: Families of Covid-19 patients protest outside collector’s office in Pune over Remdesivir shortage The Bharatiya Janata Party had recently sought an ACB probe into the BMC’s Remdesivir procurement at 2.5 times the price at which state-run Haffkine had bought the vials. Chahal said that more than the rate, the BMC’s priority was to secure enough vials for Covid-19 positive patients, who would need the life-saving drug in civic hospitals.
