'Unspoken' abortion ban in regions
ABCSally Sara: Abortion is a legal right across the country, but doctors say an unspoken ban is denying some women access in rural and regional areas. Your story has uncovered the case of a woman who was turned away from a scheduled abortion in southern New South Wales. But Melissa was booked in, as you said, for a surgical termination at Queanbeyan District Hospital in southern New South Wales. She wants guidelines for surgical terminations on medical grounds, but she's heard nothing back from the Southern New South Wales local health district, which oversees all of the rural and regional health services and hospitals in Southern New South Wales. When we put questions on that to the Western New South Wales LHD, they confirmed that no, they're not providing surgical terminations for non-medical reasons.
