Congress never gave its due to Ambedkar: Kiren Rijiju during Constitution debate
The HinduUnion Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday claimed that the Congress had not given due respect to B.R. Parliament Winter Session LIVE: Constitution debate in Lok Sabha on December 14, 2024 In an apparent jibe at the Opposition, Mr. Rijiju said that while India has given equal voting rights to all, some claim that minorities have no rights in the country. Whether the Congress or our government, all have worked in their own ways,” he said noting that India was one country which gave voting rights to all before many others like the United States. Mr. Rijiju, who also is also the Minority Affairs Minister, said that Dr. Ambedkar was first kept out of the Cabinet, but later he along with Syama Prasad Mukherjee were included at Mahatma Gandhi’s insistence. Citing a document, the Union Minister said that while Dr. Ambedkar wanted reservation indefinitely till equality was achieved, Mr. Nehru advocated for it to be in place for 10 years.
