Operating in Jaipur while sitting in Gurugram: How surgery is evolving in India
India TodayIn a groundbreaking feat that blends cutting-edge technology with medical innovation, India’s first indigenous surgical robotic system has redefined what’s possible in modern healthcare. Imagine this: a patient in Jaipur undergoing complex heart surgery, while the surgeon, seated 285 kilometres away in Gurugram, operates with precision using a robotic system. Dr Sudhir Srivastava, a renowned cardiologist and founder of SS Innovations, used the first made-in-India surgical robotic system, the SSI Mantra 3, to conduct two telesurgeries on patients at other locations in India recently. India's First Indigenous Surgical Robot The idea of creating an indigenous surgical robot was conceived in 2011 by Dr Srivastava after years of working with the Da Vinci system, a US-based surgical robot.
