Everton fear James McCarthy could be out for up to five weeks after limping out of their defeat by Stoke City. Everton midfielder James McCarthy is set to be sidelined for up to five weeks with a groin injury McCarthy heads down the tunnel after lasting only 26 minutes during the defeat by Stoke on Monday McCarthy has been sorely missed in Everton's midfield and they face a tough start to 2016 with Premier League fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Swansea plus cup ties against City and Dagenham and Redbridge. One bright spot for manager Roberto Martinez though is the impending return of captain Phil Jagielka who should be fit to play in ten days after recovering from a knee ligament injury. Fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley is also set for a few weeks on the treatment table with achilles injury Everton captain Phil Jagielka is closing on a return and could feature in around 10 days It will be a welcome relief for Martinez to have his skipper fit and available again particularly with the team struggling defensively in recent weeks.
