SC asks states, UTs to ensure no breaks in education of children orphaned due to Covid-19
India TodayThe Supreme Court of India has directed the governments of states and union territories to ensure that there is no break in the education of children who have become orphans or lost one parent during the Covid-19 pandemic. During the Supreme Court hearing on June 7, the central government asked the court to provide them with more time to set the modalities of the newly launched scheme “PM CARES for Children”, which was approved by the government last month. PM CARES for Children scheme Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre will provide financial assistance to children who have lost their parents to the Covid-19 pandemic. The NCPCR has also stated that as per the data provided by a different state, around 30,000 children have been orphaned, lost one parent or abandoned due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
