10 things we learned about the Blue Jays in 2021 — and what it means for next season
The Blue Jays season came to a disappointing end when the club fell one win short of forcing a tiebreaker against either the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox. Although the Blue Jays season didn’t end how they wanted it to, there was still a lot to like about how their season went, including the MVP-calibre performance from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Robbie Ray establishing himself as a team ace and Cy Young candidate. Bo Bichette had one of the best seasons for a Toronto shortstop – and it’s only the start Based on bWAR, Bichette just had the best season by a shortstop in Blue Jays history, putting up 6.0 wins above replacement in 159 games. It’s probably not realistic to think the Blue Jays would have sustained a.694 winning percentage over 81 home games, had they been played in Toronto. As Semien said, “A full season in Toronto could be scary with this group.” Barring something unforeseen, the Blue Jays will play the entirety of their home schedule in Toronto next season for the first time since 2019.
