Coronavirus recovery is just around the corner — if the stock market can be believed

No-one has a crystal ball. The experts don't always get it right, but the main Australian stock market index right now is much higher than it was back in March, when the shock of coronavirus hit households across the country. However, when you consider the Centrelink queues, Treasury's forecast of an unemployment rate reaching 10 per cent, talk of Depression-like conditions, and an uncertain period of economic hibernation, it makes little sense the market has rallied by 20 per cent. Group of Eight CEO Vicki Thomson says what the stock market rally is demonstrating is that we can now see a "light at the end of the tunnel". It's this uncertainty that's lead to wild moves on financial markets, and produced a "baffling" stock market rally.
