
Main building of Sec’bad rly station to be demolished in phases for redevelopment
The HinduThe ₹699 crore Secunderabad railway station ongoing redevelopment work has reached the main building with the workers demolishing a 100 metre portion near Alpha Hotel side and parcel office in the last 48 hours. A few months ago another 100-metre portion of the main building near the Ganesh Temple was demolished to make way for the proposed new multi-level parking complex. “The area where the demolition work is taking place has been barricaded, but platform one will continue to be in use and trains will be running on the line for some more time till a few more trains are shifted to the new Cherlapalli terminal station next month,” informed Chief Public Relations Officer A. Sridhar, on Thursday. About 10 more train pairs will be shifted to Cherlapalli station in addition to the already announced two express trains – one towards Chennai and another towards Gorakhpur already scheduled to start from the new terminal on March 7.
