Indian films can be understood in a better way, says Girish Kasaravalli
The HinduIndian films can be understood in a better way by understanding the conditions under which the films are made, said film maker Girish Kasaravalli in Mangaluru on Sunday. Participating in the discussion on “Techinicality of films” on the concluding day of the two-day Mangaluru Lit Fest, Mr. Kasaravalli said films of Satyajit Ray are inspired by Bengali renaissance and it can be understood if viewer has understanding of Bengal renaissance. The Malayalam films can be understood if there is knowledge of left movement and Kannada films can be understood if there is knowledge of socialist movement, Mr. Kasaravalli said. “A film can be understood in a better way if reviwer understands reasons for, namely, slow pace or fast pace of the film.” Every 10 years, he said, the approach to film and it’s elements changes.
