UGC launches PhD excellence citation to honour top researchers in academia

The University Grants Commission has introduced the ‘PhD Excellence Citation’ to honour exceptional research achievements annually across multiple academic fields. Recent UGC data reveals a growing trend in PhD enrollments, with the numbers doubling from 77,798 in 2010-11 to 1,61,412 in 2017-18, reflecting an annual growth rate of about 10 percent. Through this initiative, the UGC hopes to boost research quality in Indian universities and bring national recognition to talented researchers across a broad range of fields. The UGC plans to present the PhD Excellence awards on September 5, in celebration of Teacher's Day, to honour and motivate exemplary scholars in academia.
