Hurricanes, apart from destroying human settlements and the environment, can have a great impact on the deep ocean, according to new study. The study made use of this data from 5 decades to know the impact of hurricanes on the deep ocean. Hurricane Fabian delivered as much sediment to the deep ocean in just two weeks as would normally take a full year to accumulate. "This is the first time that a study has demonstrated, in near real-time, this hurricane-induced transport from a shallow carbonate platform to the deep ocean," said Rut Pedrosa-Pamies, study's researcher.
