OLED tiles that make buildings INVISIBLE with smart colour-changing technology
Smart tiles could make homes of the future melt into their surroundings. As well as providing camouflage, the tiles could make the inside of a house look like an art gallery, a Stone Age hut or even Buckingham Palace. The researchers hope to put the connected tiles into production by the end of 2020 LUMINOUS ELECTRONIC TILES Each tile is the same size as a standard, rectangular A3 piece of paper and has its own with their own internal power source. The panels have a ceramic base, with a transparent top layer with electronics and OLEDs sandwiched in between 'It may sound like the stuff of James Bond but external tiles would create a 'chameleonic skin', or instant camouflage,' said Professor Giuliani. What's more, the researchers say the tiles could also have other users, such as smart floor panels that could tell if an elderly person had fallen over.
