High Court Stays Haryana Govt Order Declaring Mansa Devi Temple Complex Area As ‘Holy’, Banning Sale Of Meat In Its Vicinity

On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the operation of an order issued by the State government banning the sale and purchase of meat and meat products in the Mata Mansa Devi temple situated in the Panchkula district of Haryana state. The bench of Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj passed the following order on a plea moved by the affected meat sellers: "In the meanwhile, operation of the impugned Notification dated 21.12.2022 shall remain stayed till the next date of hearing." It may be noted that on December 21, 2022, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Haryana, Urban Local Bodies Department issued the impugned notification declaring the demarcated area near Mata Mansa Devi temple as "Holy Area" and thereby prohibited the slaughtering, sale and purchase of meat and meat products within the said area.
