ABCAfter months of delays and a $1.3 billion budget blowout, Sydney's light rail will finally be open to the public on December 14. Key points: The service will run from 5:00am to 1:00am every day of the week after the opening weekend The bill for the project has hit $2.9 billion — almost double the original cost predicted in 2012 The second leg of the project — a spur line to Kingsford — will be completed in March The light rail will carry passengers between Circular Quay and Randwick, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, and will be free for the opening weekend, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced. "The CBD and South East Light Rail is a big step towards revitalising our city and will transform the way we live, work and go out in Sydney," Ms Berejiklian said.
