American filmmaker Jon M Chu has shared his plans to shoot in Australia and revealed that the new adaptation of Wicked was almost filmed Down Under. The Crazy Rich Asians director, 44, is gearing up for the release of his film adaptation of theatre show Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, in November. American filmmaker Jon M Chu has shared his plans to shoot in Australia and revealed that the new adaptation of Wicked was almost filmed Down Under The Crazy Rich Asians director, 44, is gearing up for the release of his film adaptation of theatre show Wicked, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, in November Though Australia and Atlanta were both considered, Wicked was ultimately shot in the UK due to the availability of stage spaces. He has now revealed his lifelong dreams to shoot in Sydney and even joked that he would like to work on a film adaptation of hit Aussie animation series Bluey Best known for his 2018 hit comedy Crazy Rich Asians, Chu made Wicked at the massive Elstree Studios near London at a whopping cost of $145million. Ariana plays Glinda the Good Witch while Cynthia stars as Elphaba in the film, based on Gregory Maguire's best-selling novel and the hit Broadway musical adaptation.
