Budget address marked with little noise from Opposition

The Hindu

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s Budget speech on Wednesday was one marked with little noise from the main Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi. There were some jeers from BRS members at the beginning of the one hour fifty minute long address of Mr. Vikramarka, who holds the Finance portfolio, but they too subsided as the speech continued with focus on the government’s initiatives and proposed programmes. Without deviating even a bit from his address, Mr. Vikramark described the Budget as a perfect balance between welfare and development – a twin engine system – driving governance with exceptional momentum. “Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him,” Mr. Vikramark cited Mahatma Gandhi as saying this principle guided every action of the government for upliftment of the poor and marginalised communities.
