Aaron Rodgers and the Bears: How much longer can he torture them?
New York TimesThere is no chance Aaron Rodgers is going to miss this week’s game against the Bears. “I don’t know if you can question a whole lot of what I said,” Rodgers said last December shortly before leading Green Bay to a 45-30 win over the Bears at Lambeau Field. The late Vaughn McClure described the unlikely win in his lede for the Chicago Tribune: “Two second-half interceptions of Kyle Orton passes, a passive pass rush, a barely existent running game and a sharp Aaron Rodgers all spelled disaster for a Bears team fighting for its postseason life.” Rodgers completed passes to 10 receivers, but at the end of the fourth quarter, his coach Mike McCarthy went conservative, calling three straight run plays from the Chicago 24-yard-line. “He’s Aaron Rodgers, you know?” Though Rodgers hasn’t cracked 300 yards at Soldier Field since that game, he has picked up four wins in five chances. Though Bears fans have similarly enjoyed Rodgers’ and the Packers’ slide into mediocrity this season, it feels like this game is going to be a missed opportunity for catharsis.
