After Matthew Tkachuk’s return to Calgary, it’s time to focus on Flames’ future
New York TimesCALGARY — A few hours before the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers met at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday night, dozens of concession and arena workers surrounded the visiting team’s entrance. “It’d be unfair to my new teammates, my team and everybody that traded for me and brought me, to have not closed the door already,” Tkachuk said. It was as cold as the shoulder Chris Tanev gave that morning when asked if Tkachuk’s return would serve as a distraction, “Didn’t even think about it until you just brought that up,” Tanev said. Obviously, they tried to come back but we stuck with it and played with some confidence.” The Flames won’t say if there was a concerted effort to keep Tkachuk off the scoresheet but some players still recognized what the game was supposed to represent.
